Longwood and Bay Shore Softball Present: OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST CRYSTL BUSTOS COACHING CLINIC AND PLAYER CLINIC

Player Clinic @ Bay Shore High School

Saturday, October 31stst (Session I- 9:00am-12:00pm / Session II- 1:00pm-4:00pm)

        

 

Coaches’ Clinic

 

Participants will learn hitting & fielding tips from the 2008 USA Softball Player of the Year and Akron Racer, Crystl Bustos.  Crystl will share her unique approach to the game and utilize some of the training techniques and drills used by the US Olympic Softball Team.  Akron Racer teammate, Jackie Pasquerella will also lead a breakout session on bunting and slapping. 2007 State Champion Bay Shore Softball Head Coach Jim McGowan along with former Hofstra All-American and Longwood Head Softball Coach Alicia Smith will provide sessions on pitching and the college recruiting process.  The clinic will be held at Longwood High School in Middle Island.

 

Players’ Clinic

Learn hitting tips from the premier power hitter in fastpitch softball. Crystl Bustos will utilize the training techniques and drills used by the USA Olympic Team to improve your hitting. Players will receive three hours of hands-on feedback from Crystl and the other instructors on Bay Shore High School’s newly renovated turf fields.  Session I will be in the morning for pre-high school softball players and Session II will be held in the afternoon for all high school softball players.

 

THE InstRuctors

Crystl Bustos– has won several awards during her career. She’s been a World Cup Champion (2006,2007), a three time Pan American Gold Medalist (1999,2003 & 2007), a World Champion (2007), and a two time Olympic Gold Medalist (2000 & 2004).  She was also named 2008 USA Softball Player of the Year and is a current member of the NPF Akron Racers. Bustos has her own travel club called Bustos Elite which has teams from 10 and under to 18 and under. She has a softball organization as well for kids ages 12U to 18U located in Ohio and which is called Bustos Ultimate. Since the Olympic Games in Athens, Bustos has been trying to form a non-profit organization to fund inner city children to play sports.

Jackie Pasquerellais currently the starting third baseman for the NPF Akron Racers.  Jackie has competed professionally for the last six seasons, winning NPF Championships with the NY/NJ Juggernaut (2004) and the New England Riptide (2007). In 2002, she traveled to Italy to play for team Saronno. At Villanova, she received All-Big East honors four years in a row.  Jackie is currently the assistant softball and basketball coach for Bay Shore High School.

Jim McGowan- Head Coach at Bay Shore High School and 18U Sports Shack Spartans.  Coach McGowan achieved the 600 win mark this past season, making him the winningest coach in New York State history.  He has led the Marauders to five New York State Championships and numerous Long Island and League Championships.  Coach McGowan also gives private hitting and pitching instruction.

 

Alicia SmithHead Coach at Longwood High School and 14U Long Island Bandits.  Smith is a former National Pro League player with the NY/NJ Juggernaut (2005) after completing a season with the Nuoro Softball team in the Italian Federation Softball League.  Smith played six seasons with the Raybestos Brakettes Women’s Major team, winning 2 national championships and earning ASA All-American honors in 2002. She was an All-American at Hofstra University in 2000.  Smith was also an assistant coach at Northwestern University and Virginia Tech.

 

Additional Instructors will be present to keep a low player to coach ratio.

Things to Remember on Clinic Days

 

·      Dress for the weather – you can always remove layers

·      Bring your own bat, helmet and batting gloves…please label all belongings!

·      Bustos T-shirts will be for sale during the clinics

·      In the event of weather issues, please check your email for cancellation information.
